World prescription dermatological drug market grew 10% in last 2 years

According to the report “The Market for Prescription Dermatological Drugs, 8th Edition” increasing melanoma statistics are driving demand for drugs to treat skin these types of skinconditions. The world prescription dermatological drug market grew 10% from 2009 to 2011.

Incidence rates for melanoma have been on the rise for at least 30 years. In recent years, the growth has been most common in young white women and in older white men. In theUS, melanoma is slightly more common in men than in women. Overall, the lifetime risk of getting melanoma is about 2% (1 in 50) for Caucasians, 0.1% (1 in 1,000) for African Americans, and 0.5% (1 in 200) for Hispanics.
